Complex.com – It’s common for a rapper to spit over a classic instrumental on a free mixtape release, as was the case with Mac Miller using Lord Finesse‘s 1995 “Hip 2 Da Game” instrumental for his breakout cut “Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza” off his 2010 K.I.D.S. mixtape. Well, Lord Finesse is now suing Mac Miller for $10 million over unauthorized use of his instrumental. According to Courthouse News Service, the complaint says, “This is a case about a teenage rapper- Mac Miller- copying the music from a song written, produced and performed by Lord Finesse, a hip hop legend, changing the title and then distributing it under his own name in order to launch his music career.” In addition, CNS says Finesse filed the lawsuit only after DatPiff, who launched and hosted the mixtape, Mac Miller, and his label Rostrum Records, refused to respond to a cease and desist letter earlier this month. The CNS report also states that the $10 million lawsuit “alleges copyright infringement, unfair competition, unjust enrichment, interference, deceptive trade practices, and a number of related state law claims.”

MAC MILLER’S NET WORTH: $1.5 MILLION
MIXTAPE REVIEW: “K.I.D.S.” MAC MILLER
Mac Miller offered his side of the story on Twitter late Tuesday night:

I'm gonna sue Mac for stealing my heart.
his worth 1.5mil but they going layers and insurances to there music.
daaaaaaaaaamn
whoooaaa
This should be interesting… All them Big L claims is coming back on him.
He has a good case, Mac will settle, I was looking this over earlier today
Dumb fuck, I kept telling everybodys asses that he jacked it. Posted the lord vid on here and these faggots was all over millers dick, shit wasnt even that great if you herd finesse somg first.
Whats a somg dumb fuck?
There's no way Mac Miller is worth $10mil, with the amount of people downloading music illegally and the fact that on average the artist gets 3 cents from every 99 cent track sold, I just don't see it.
Cause he's dope.
That comment makes literally no sense in relation to mine.
I mean, if he gets paid every time his douche level hits over 9000, he must be rolling in it. But I don't think that's how it works.
Super Douch'in!^
Lord Finesse is my hero
"hip hop legend"? ha! I think someone's just jealous they didn't make as much as Mac is..
Lord Finesse is worth about 10x what Mac Miller is worth, dude. In addition to setting a new tone to hip hop music with "Funky Technician", Finesse worked with Biggie, Ice T, Chill Rob G, and Big L, who (in addition to being one of the most innovative and creative rappers of his era) took PCP and ate his roommate's lungs. This up against a kid who thinks letting a girl wear his snapback is a relationship milestone. Finesse>Mac
so taking PCP and eating someone's lungs is apparently the shit now?
Finesse didn't do it, Big L did. Reading comprehension, my dear. And yeah, way fucking cooler than anything Mac's done. This includes stealing samples. I hope Finesse cleans him out and sends him back to his mom's basement. But that's just me, I go in the favor of the original, innovative artist who did the actual work
I don't even care for Mac but I just don't like the fact that they waited this long to complain about it.. "we'll just wait and see if this kid becomes famous.. and then take all his money if he does" .. So if you use an instrumental in one of your songs before you're famous you have to stop there and not release any of your own songs? It's not like he could just remove 'Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza' off the internet.. Also Mac hasn't taken anything away from Finesse.. I'm not 100% on this but i'm assuming Finesse was done making money off that song..
Emma you're thinking of Big Lurch (a rapper from texas) not Big L (ny rapper that worked with Lord Finesse). lol Check your facts girl you're more than a little confused. Either way you can have respect for both artists. Lord Finesse is a classic and has any hip hop listener's respect as he should but the problem here is that he clearly just saw an opportunity to make some money off of an up-and-coming artist. Mac paid homage to Finesse and whether you like Mac's music or not isn't an issue, it's that this law suit shouldn't exist in the first place
& It wasn't stealing, anyone who listens to mixtapes knows that classic beats get used over and over for freestyles. It's what modern hip hop has become and thats whats so fun about the genre. In addition to that Mac talked to Finesse initially and had his blessing when the mixtape first came out. People need to do more research before hating on either artist, the intention here was clearly to paid homage to a hip hop legend (which Finesse IS) and not to harm anyone or steal anything (which Mac did NOT do)
Emma Jane Kanter I think Im in love with you…lmao! J/K but a female with extensive knowledge of hip hop…DEAD SEXY!!!
"Extensive knowledge of hip hop" are you serious bro? There were 3 dudes she named off… But I bet she couldn't even name you one single Big L song without the use of Google. Shit, you probably couldn't either. You probably think Paul Wall is a great rapper. hahahahahahaha
why the hate Jacob? LOL
i think she knew enough, giver her her due
Hahaha $10mil ain't nothing for Mac. He's still going to drop those ill tracks no matter what. He's got to.
Pocket change…smh
3 different websites say Mac Miller's net worth is about $1.5M.
You guys are stupid as hell.. Macs only worth 1.5mill lmfao.
Celebrities can pull money out of their ass pretty much, whenever they like. Ever heard of the power elite? or illuminati? maybe you're the ignorant one..
Keldon Tapia Lol is a kid talking about illuminati really calling me ignorant? lol gtfo of here and don't bother responding. no point in arguing with people that are that stupid.
